With the start of a new month, Baseball America updated their Top 100 today, and with the graduation of Kyle Harrison from the prospect lists, the Giants were back down to just two prospects on the list: Bryce Eldridge (#60) and Marco Luciano (#69), who both remain fixed in their preseason area of the list. Generally, it hasn’t been a very impactful beginning of the year for the Giants’ farm. Though there have been strong early season performances, we’re not seeing a lot of presence from the Giants on BA’s weekly Hot Sheet or the Minor League Update that sites like Baseball Prospectus run regularly. That’s probably not too surprising — most of the offensive players have yet to heat up, or even get off the interstate in a few too many cases, and while solid pitching has carried most of the affiliates, we’re not seeing the type of double-digit strikeout performances that, for instance, have rocketed the Guardians’ brilliantly nicknamed Tugboat Wilkinson onto prospect watchers’ radar.
All in all, it’s been a quiet, subtle open to the season for the farm system, without a lot of loud performances and pop-up guys. That doesn’t mean unsuccessful, of course. Young players are having a real impact on the major league roster, with Harrison, Keaton Winn, Erik Miller, and Tyler Fitzgerald all providing value and hope for the future. It would be nice to see a little more noise coming from the org, though, especially on the hitting side of the shop.
One guy who continues to make noise with his performance, however, is right-handed pitcher, Mason Black. So let’s get to the good stuff that happened on the farm last night!
HITTER of the NIGHT: Ty Hanchey (SJ) 3 for 4, 3 2b, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Mason Black (Sac), 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K
