Hello there! I know with an entire Monday sitting in between us, it seems like the weekend is far gone at this point. I appreciate your patience in waiting for this week’s weekend wrap! There R Giants’ senior management team (by which I mean my wife and I) snuck away for a long weekend of birding on the absolutely gorgeous Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, and had quite a bevy of great sightings (including the mating call of the King Rail, up close and personal and an absolutely stunning group of Redheaded Woodpeckers!).
Anyway, the company retreat has me a little late getting to the weekend’s action on the farm and the mailbag remains tied up for this weekend — though we’ll be opening it on a regular, weekly basis from here on out.
But to our business at hand, a lot went on while I was gone. To try to wrap my arms around things without the wrap becoming too much of a shaggy dog, I’m instituting an organizing principle today: I’ll tell the story of each team’s weekend with a tight focus on just four players for each club — 4 x 4, we’ll call it! We’ll see if this helps curtail my tendency towards verbosity. If it works well enough, maybe I’ll even keep it going in future weeks!
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Andrew Kachel (Eug), 4 for 11 2 2b, 3b, HR (1), 5 RBI, 3 R
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Mason Black (Sac), 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
So, even with a foggy Monday separating us, let’s remember the weekend that was — a weekend that featured an awful lot of winning! And nobody was doing more winning that the en fuego Emeralds/Monarcas/Merry Pranksters, who not only put three more games in the Win column, they accomplished that feat while scoring a huge W in the marketing department with these awesome Grateful Dead brand specialty shirts, available for one night only. Seriously, these things were a work of art. Nicely done promotions team. The Emeralds’ front office keeps killing it!
