I know Mailbag day is Tuesday, but you’ll forgive me if I amend one of my answers from yesterday:
Was Cole Foster injured on Saturday? He got pulled and didn't play Sunday.
NEW RESPONSE: Yes! Yes he was! Foster was placed on the IL within hours of the Mailbag going up. Classic!
To help ease the loss of Foster (and the continued loss of Maui Ahuna), Justin Bench was moved back down from Sacramento to San Jose (not Eugene, where he originally was assigned this year) to handle shortstop duties. That was part of a series of transactions throughout the organization, as the Giants began unwinding some of the logistical necessities of the last couple of weeks. Catcher Drew Cavanaugh returned to San Jose, and outfielder Turner Hill went back down to Eugene.
The most interesting move was assigning Blake Sabol to Richmond, keeping him expediently close in case Patrick Bailey suffers further concussion symptoms (Sabol was not in Bowie with the team last night, and we’ll see if this is just a paper transaction or a real, if temporary, assignment).
HITTER of the NIGHT: Tyler Fitzgerald (Sac), 4 for 5, 2 HR (2), 2b, 3 R, 5 RBI, BB, SB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Ubert Mejias (SJ), 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
Short turnaround this morning, as I have to get out to the ballpark for a morning game in Bowie, so let’s get these Lines moving! And let’s start off with a stunning back-to-back sequence of defensive gems that I witnessed firsthand in Maryland last night. Grant McCray and Jimmy Glowenke pulled these two little miracles off within three pitches of each other! I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen consecutive web gems quite like this before!
That is how you do that, folks!
