2024 Season Wraps: San Jose Giants
As is the case every year around here, before we start looking ahead to the coming season, we need to take a moment to relive the past one. We’ll wrap up the season for each level, taking a look at the overall success of the season, memorable games and special accomplishments, and of course, we’ll take a look at which players made their case for There R Giants’ Top 50 list! We’ll start from the bottom and go level by level. Today we look at the San Jose Giants.
Previous Season Wraps:
If you take away a disappointing ending to their year — a third consecutive two-game sweep in the California League playoffs, the second straight at the hands of the Modesto Nuts — it’s hard to imagine a year going more smoothly or more successfully than San Jose’s did this year. The Giants opened the year with the most eagerly anticipated new hitting prospect in the system in the middle of their lineup, and the most eagerly anticipated new pitching prospect in the middle of their rotation — and both more than lived up to their hype! Incredibly, while those high-profile talents helped the team get off to a strong first half (after a somewhat wobbly beginning), the team found even more success on the field after its star prospects had moved on to a higher level. And they did that, in part, by finding an unexpected new star!
The end-of-year awards reflected this bifurcated nature of the Giants’ season. Instead of announcing one Team MVP, as is normally the case, San Jose announced that Bryce Eldridge was their first half MVP and Bo Davidson their second half MVP. Nothing else so perfectly encapsulates a year in which San Jose played host to the two biggest breakout performances of the season on the Giants’ farm.
That seems like something to get hyped about….twice over!
