So far, in this year’s Top 50, we’ve seen:
Besides moving into the teens in today’s edition of the Top 50, we’re stepping up into a different and more important tier as well. Those of you who took rigorous notes during the Depth Charts series might be aware that we are now mostly done with our pink 40+ grade players (essentially bench options, or players with enough development in front of them that a conservative risk assessment guards against grading them higher than that). There is one exception to that, which we’ll get to in Wednesday’s post, but, by and large, we’ve moving up into the 45 group as of right now.
Now, I don’t know how bright that line is exactly — I can certainly make an argument that would make our last prospect (#21 Sabin Ceballos) and today’s first one (#20 ???) as more or less equivalent. But, for reasons of up-the-middle versatility, here is where I made my value distinction. From the moment we pass today’s jump-break, we’re into the realm of 45s. In other words, here is where we step up into what should be the class of the system’s depth.
There are only two players in the org whom I currently have graded above either a 45 or 45+, so we’re also entering a span of ten or so players who are very equivalent in their prospect value.
All of this should be hyping you up a bit, because we’re now really starting our ascent into the best of the best in the current Giants’ organization. Begin climbing…….NOW…
