So far, in this year’s Top 50, we’ve seen:
Are we more comfortable with the known commodity, or does familiarity breed contempt? Your answer to that question may provide some insight into how you feel about today’s grouping of prospects — each of whom is something of a newcomer, relatively unseen by most Giants’ fans up until now. None of these five were on the Top 50 last year. Indeed, at this time last year, only two of these players had ever appeared in a game in the Giants’ organization, and those two had combined for a grand total of 27 games in their careers. Only six of those 27 appearances came above the complex level.
And even with the benefit of 12 additional months, most of today’s group of players have relatively little exposure to Giants’ fans. Three of today’s group of five have combined to play a grand total of one game at a Giants’ full-season affiliate. The “old hand” of this collection of players has gotten himself into just 51 games as a member of the Giants’ organization.
Which means today we’re looking at some relative neophytes — players who might have escaped your radar up till now. It’s “Get to Know Your Prospect Day” as the Top 50 rolls on towards the brink of the teens.
