We are deep in the pitching weeds now — and we’re particularly deep in the injured pitching weeds. We are going to have much more discussion of surgeries in today’s post, unfortunately — to the point that 40% of today’s subjects have an “N/A” on their statline for the year. Indeed, our five pitchers in today’s portion of the Top 50 threw a combined 102 innings for the Giants’ organization last year — though “for the Giants’ organization” is doing a bit of hefty lifting in that sentence, which we’ll explain in a bit.
That doesn’t mean the news is all bad, however. There are a lot of high-quality arms in today’s list — and even the ones that are injured should be returning to the field in the coming year. A couple of arms we’ve missed greatly will be warming up in spring for the first time in some 18 months or more! There’s plenty of youth on hand today — and more than sprinkling of those all-important lefties.
It’s a good group (even if it does come with a more than its fair share of scar tissue)!
