Well, hello there! I hope you’re all doing well on this fine morning, the day after one of my absolute favorites, Hayden Birdsong, rejoined the rotation to show what he can do when let off the leash. While appreciating the box score this morning, it wasn’t hard to notice a pattern. The Giants shut down Kansas City using five different pitchers — all of whom were scouted and signed as amateurs by the Giants and developed up to the majors through their farm system. The same can be said for four members of the starting lineup.

So, whenever the temptation comes to get a bit testy and deliver harsh evaluations — as I might have indulged in some yesterday, it’s important to remember our gratitudes, and all the good things in this baseball watching passion of ours. There are flaws and weaknesses for sure, but a lot of good things have happened on the Giants’ player development front the last few years — things that Farhan Zaidi should be remembered well for. Starters, All Stars, and exciting young talent have graduated to the majors, even if the success rate of star prospect to major league stalwart hasn’t exactly been 1 for 1.

As we start a new week of ball, it’s always good to remember that baseball is always ready to offer up a pearl. Even if you’re struggling with a 12-27 record, you might at least find yourself in the shadows of greatness, as the Squirrels did yesterday afternoon. On this Wednesday morning, I’m feeling grateful for the ball — inspired, sloppy, good, or bad, it’s never indifferent.

HITTER of the NIGHT: Grant McCray (Sac), 2 for 4, 2b, 3 RBI, BB, K
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Seth Lonsway (Rich),
5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
