I’m reminded this morning of John Donne’s great “Nocturnal on St. Lucy’s Day,” which is the shortest day of the year.

'Tis the year's midnight, and it is the day's,
Lucy's, who scarce seven hours herself unmasks;
The sun is spent, and now his flasks
Send forth light squibs, no constant rays;
The world's whole sap is sunk;

Hey, I’ve got to bust out that English grad degree now and again, don’t I? I worked hard at that thing!

But yes, to the point! I’m reminded of the nocturnal because today is the shortest Minor Lines of the year, and just as St. Lucy’s Day presages year’s end when it arrives in mid-December, so too does the two-team edition of Minor Lines annually foretell that another year of minor league baseball is just about spent.

To help you prepare for the slimmed-down offseason schedule, which will be starting here at There R Giants within a matter of days (because I wouldn’t want you to have to go cold turkey), we present….a slimmed-down Minor Lines.

HITTER of the NIGHT: Zach Morgan (Rich) 2 for 2, 2 BB, 1 R
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Carson Ragsdale (Sac),
3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

It may be short, but it’s still a Game Day! And that’s always a happy thought.
