The Giants’ system picked up several awards again this week, picking up a Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week (both for Richmond), and a Pitcher of the Month. Congratulations to Shane Rademacher, Joe Whitman, and Carter Howell. Very deserving.
Rademacher was very deserving of his third Pitcher of the Week out of the last four weeks, but didn’t get it. The pitcher that won the award this week had two outstanding starts in the same week.
A lot of runs were scored in Giants’ affiliate action yesterday—not a ton of them by the good guys. There were plenty of highlights to go around though, along with a few lowlights. There were comeback wins, late inning losses, great saves in the outfield, blowout losses—quite the variety for a day of ball.
HITTER of the NIGHT: Scott Bandura 3-5, 3 Runs, 4 RBI, Grand Slam HR
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Juan Mercedes, 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Scott Bandura gets the nod for hitter of the night, blasting a first-inning grand slam to get the Emeralds going in style, and banging out three hits to take the Northwest League lead in hitting.
Juan Mercedes, just activated off the development list, settled things down through the middle innings, helping the River Cats to a victory. In a night in which the system gave up a total of 42 runs, throwing up a few zeroes is a thing of beauty.
