Big Hitting and Great Pitching Highlight the System (And a Bit of a Stinker Too)

We had a little bit of everything last night in the system. You want hits flying everywhere, you’d love the Sacramento game. You like great pitching, we give you Richmond and San Jose. You revel in absolute torture and very literal walkoffs, take the Eugene game, although I’d rather leave that one than take it.
We had small ball and long ball, and we just had ball after ball in last night’s action. As I said, a little bit of everything.
HITTER of the NIGHT: Hunter Bishop (Sac) 3-5, 3 R, 2B, 2 3B, 3 RBI
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Joe Whitman (Rich) 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
It was extremely difficult to pick the pitcher of the night, as Joe Whitman and Niko Mazza put up nearly identical performances, each leading their team to a narrow low-scoring victory. But I gave the nod to Whitman by an eyelash.
For the hitter of the night, you could have given it to almost any River Cats’ hitter, as they had four players with a home run, five different ones with three hits, four different players with three RBI, and four players with at least two extra base hits. I gave a slight nod to Hunter Bishop, with three extra base hits and five runs accounted for.
And before I forget (like I did yesterday), congratulations to Trent Harris, who was added to the Futures Game roster. He joins Carson Whisenhunt and the injured Bryce Eldridge in being selected to the Futures Game.
We’ll just let this section be the inside the park home run section for this week. This one wasn’t nearly as impressive as the one the day before, but inside the park homers are always fun (when they’re for your team anyway).
Don’t forget, from now through July 16 Roger is running a “Hooray for the DSL” sale to celebrate his trip to the Dominican — 25% off your first year’s subscription, either annual or monthly! It’s a great time to become a There R Giants’ subscriber.
