Just to follow up on one of my mailbag questions from yesterday — of course, the Richmond Diamond pays tribute to its alumni who have gone on to bigger things (though I must admit they’ve fallen a bit behind the last 10 months or so). Allow me to present, a quick tour of the alumni wall:

I do actually really like the way San Jose integrates their famous alumni into the stadium, but Richmond has a lot of cool history around the park, including opening day lineups from most of their seasons. Here’s a little turn back the clock — the very first lineup card in Squirrels’ history included more future big leaguers than any other in the 13 years since (eight out of nine, not bad!):

HITTER of the NIGHT: Dennys Riera (DSL), 2 for 3, 2 HR (3), 2 Runs, 2 RBI, BB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Mason Black (Rich),
5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K

Not a great night on the farm, with a lot of games that turned ugly, early, and one team even found themselves on the wrong side of history. But exploring for nuggets we go, because development lessons may lurk underneath the surface of the staid 0 for 1.
