Goodness! A mass migration took place throughout the organization yesterday, a wave lifting from the very lowest level and not resting until it had reached the shore of the major league roster. Let’s take these by levels to try to wrap our brains around where everybody is after all the mid-week disturbances:
→ San Francisco: Jerar Encarnación
→ Sacramento: DOWN: David Villar, Blake Sabol, UP: Wade Meckler, Will Wilson
→ Richmond: Jack Choate, Julio Rodriguez, Justin Wishkoski
→ Eugene: Dylan Carmouche, Tyler Vogel (back from IL)
→ San Jose: Jose Ortiz, Ryan Reckley, Robert Hipwell
Got all of that? There will be a multiple choice test later!
There was also an unconfirmed report floating around yesterday that Walker Martin has been sent to San Jose. We’ll see about that one, but I do believe that particular source (Chase Ford, from a site called MILB Central) has had a pretty good track record on pre-reporting moves this year.
There was a question yesterday regarding how to pronounce the newest Giants’ name. When I have heard people in the org refer to him, they have pretty consistently pronounced his first name very much as it’s written: jeh RAR. While that may well be an anglicization, it does seem to be what he goes by in this country.
It’s also worth noting that, with the promotions of Choate and, a day earlier, Zach Morgan up to Richmond, nearly all of last year’s AFL group has made it into the upper minors. The only exceptions are Hayden Wynja and Marques Johnson, who both are or have been hurt for much of the year. As this year’s AFL representatives will likely be named later this month, that’s very typically the area of the organization the Giants typically choose from — A-ball guys that they see moving into the upper minors in the coming season.
HITTER of the NIGHT: Bo Davidson (SJ), 4 for 4, HR (5), 2b (10), 1 R, 5 RBI, 1 BB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Seth Lonsway (Rich), 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Bo Davidson, have a week, man! The undrafted former JuCO football player is having one of the hottest weeks we’ve seen out of anybody on the farm this year. That was part of an extremely offensive night in A-ball, where nearly 50 runs were scored in the two games.
