The first thing I espied upon entering The Diamond yesterday afternoon was Onil Perez catching a bullpen. That’s funny, says I, this isn’t the Pacific North Woods! But it turned out a great Catcher Shuffle was proceeding up and down the organization. In fact, going back to last week, there’s hardly a catcher left in the organization who hasn’t changed teams at least once. Obviously the Andrew Knizner-Sam Huff swap was part of what set all this in motion, but Max Stassi’s return to the IL was the lever for a lot of the motion we saw yesterday.

After San Jose catcher, Fernando Gonzalez, filled in temporarily at Sacramento over the weekend, for the start of the full week, a system-wide upheaval took place. Gonzalez returned to San Jose, while Drew Cavanaugh (San Jose → Eugene), Perez (Eugene → Richmond) and Zach Morgan (Richmond → Sacramento) all moved up a step. Well deserved on everyone’s part!

One non-catcher who also caught a flight: the hard-throwing Sadrac Franco also departed Eugene and headed to the Eastern League. I’m eager to see him throw again this week!

HITTER of the NIGHT: Bo Davidson (Eug), 2 for 3, 4 RBI, 1 R, 2 BB, Sac Fly
PITCHER of the NIGHT: John Michael Bertrand (Rich),
5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 9 K

Alright, let’s dive into the Lines….but remember, not everything shows up in the lines of the box score. It’s the process that counts in the development game.
