Ok, then! I guess that whole thing about letting Bryce Eldridge adjust to the game plan against him was a little off base. Back when I was saying that I didn’t think I’d see him for more than one more homestand I was on firmer footing!

The Giants, who are hoping to get more production out of 1b, promoted 1b Eldridge to Triple-A yesterday, and it was obviously big news, because the Boss came out to talk with writers about the move:

You know what? I think we’re going to see Eldridge playing 1b in Oracle Park before this year is out. The young slugger was one of just three 20-year-olds in the Eastern League this year, but he left that challenging level with the 14th best batting average (.280), the seventh best slugging average (.512), and the ninth best OPS (.912). From the date on which he was activated from the IL through his promotion, Eldridge was fourth in the Eastern League in XBH (15), sixth in total bases (64), and third in home runs (7). He now becomes the only 20-year-old in the PCL, and one of only three 20-year-olds in the Triple-A level, if I’m seeing things right. And I think we can all read the tea leaves — the Giants need offense and they need it at 1b. Gears are in motion.

Also, as reported by….well, me… Trent Harris accompanied Eldridge up to Triple-A:

Harris, who is the top relief prospect in the system, gave up just three runs in 16.0 innings with Richmond — and they all came on one swing of the bat on the last road trip. He brings probably the best breaking ball in the org, and has flown up the system over the last 14 months:

That’s the headliners of a big day of transactions that included bodies moving both up and down. Let’s round it all up before we get to the Minor Lines:

  • 1b Jeremiah Jenkins activated and assigned to ACL Giants from San Jose

  • RHP Trent Harris assigned to Sacramento from Richmond

  • 1b Bryce Eldridge assigned to Sacramento from Richmond

  • 1b/OF Victor Bericoto activated and assigned to Richmond from Sacramento

  • INF Justin Wishkoski assigned to Eugene from Richmond

  • RHP Ian Villers assigned to Richmond from Eugene

That’s a lot of bodies in motion, and you know what…. I don’t think they’re going to be the last. I don’t think we’re that far from some Eugene → Richmond moves (of more import than Villers). Things are starting to happen….

HITTER of the NIGHT: Grant McCray (Sac), 4 for 5, HR, 4 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Keyner Martinez (ACLG),
3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K

With all due respect accorded to yet another terrific outing from San Jose’s Hunter Dryden, Martinez gets my nod here for the night, as he’s showing some very loud stuff out in the desert that is starting to open eyes beyond our Giants-centric worldview.

So, with all of that excitement happening off the field yesterday, did they save any thrills for the games themselves? You bet they did! Let’s get to the Lines…
