We roll into the last full month of the minor league season with a head full of steam! Long time There R Giants’ fave, Tyler Fitzgerald, keeps putting his name on lists with Barry Bonds, and this weekend was named NL Rookie of the Month, joining Pedro Feliz, Buster Posey, and Luis Gonzalez on what has to be an all-time oddball list! Fitzgerald’s journey from a guy who was, at one point, completely lost at the plate in Double-A to a guy who is gaining national notoriety in MLB is a great example of why I do what I do.

Almost exactly two years ago, I sat in a dugout with Tyler, talking about his down and up season in Richmond, and I’ll never forget the determination on his face when he said “I never want to feel the way I did the first part of this year again.” There were some real Scarlett O’Hara vibes going on there (albeit Tyler is waaaaay nicer and altogether more admirable)! Fitzgerald moved full time to Scottsdale, and went to work daily with Giants minor league coaches on his swing and his approach. He put in the sweat equity, he put in the thought, he put in the hard work, and transformed himself from a kid with some legit tools and equally legitimate holes in his game, to someone that MLB pitchers need to take note of. That’s an incredible journey — and I know a lot of smart evaluators who never believed he’d get as far as he has. All credit to Tyler and a lot of dedicated coaches on the ground who helped him chart his path forward.

But there are exciting things going on down lower in the system as well. Bryce Eldridge shook off a mini-slump that had been nipping on his heels since the break to post a weekend so huge, I’m starting to worry he won’t be in Eugene when I arrive there in the coming weeks! And way down at the bottom of the system, Jhonny Level is more than justifying the faith the team showed in him when they awarded him a $1 million bonus back in January.

The season is wearing thin, but there’s still plenty of time for the stars to shine here at There R Giants’ Big Monday edition of Minor Lines!

HITTER of the WEEKND: Jhonny Level (DSLB), 4 for 6, 2 HR (6), 4 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Nick Morreale (Rich),
4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

There won’t be many more Big Mondays before this year is in the record books, so we have to appreciate the moment when Big Monday coincides with BIIIG Prospect!
