I was chatting yesterday afternoon with Sacramento play-by-play announcer, Zack Bayrouty (in a conversation you’ll be hearing shortly), and I naturally asked him how Bryce Eldridge was doing, after departing Saturday’s game with a leg issue. Zack said that the issue was a tweak of the hammy, and almost in concert we both said the words: “abundance of caution.”
An hour or so after our talk had concluded, the official word from the Giants came down:
As I wrote on Monday, with any sort of muscle strains, the clock tends to start at weeks, not days. And that’s where the situation now stands — we’ll be missing Eldridge from games for most of July. There are, I suppose, some elements of this delay that the Giants won’t mind so much — he won’t be expected to take part in the whirlwind of travel and activity that surrounds the Futures Game. He won’t be a constant topic of promotion conversation on KNBR. He won’t be expected to be the savior for the major league squad. And he can continue some of the defensive work he’s been focusing on far from the madding crowd.
Still, the pure fact is: it’s a bummer. Injuries are always a bummer. Heal up and get well soon, Bryce! We’ll miss you.
