Ok, I teased you a little bit yesterday with some Luis Matos’ highlights, but today it’s really time for Camp Notes and videos galore! Let’s go deep on what I’ve seen in my first two days at the Giants new spring training camp. First and foremost — great job, Giants! Coming from the cramped and crowded old facilities at Indian School Park, where they basically shared facilities with public tennis courts and picnic grounds, tucked into a tiny corner between the park and a fitness club, they now host a huge campus full of beautiful fields and brand new (and, we must assume) incredibly hi-tech buildings.
The campus is full of big, beautiful, state of the art new facilities. Everywhere you look on every field there are Edgetronic cameras, trackman cameras, and more, quantifying virtually every pitch and hit that takes place. Inside, there are state of the art training facilities, gyms, indoor cages and pens, and much more. It’s been a long time coming, but the end result is clearly a huge step forward for the young talent on hand.
As I mentioned yesterday, the Giants’ braintrust has been omnipresent at camp. Farhan Zaidi, Scott Harris, Jeremy Shelley, Joe Salermo, Ryan Vogelsong, Dave Righetti — Kyle Haines and his staff have plenty of veteran eyes watching carefully over the future!
