Originally, a primary motivation behind my annual trek to spring training was the opportunity to escape the biting early spring weather on the East Coast and head somewhere hot and sunny. Imagine my dismay, then, flying away from gorgeous 80-degree DC weather and landing to a chilly desert deluge! My plan — to swing by Papago for a little complex action before heading onto the Spring Breakout game in Mesa — was met with disappointment at every stop, arriving just in time to receive cancellation notices.
Not so good.
There was a bit of an upside, however! Because the Spring Breakout game was washed away, the Giants had all of their best pitchers primed and ready to go the next day when I reported to Papago. So, instead of seeing them from up in the grandstand at Mesa, I could watch them like this!
As silver linings go, that’s pretty cool!
It’s time for the Inaugural 2024 Edition of Camp Notes — chock full of videos and first-hand observations!
