I’m not one to complain at all, but I’m starting to feel like Marco Luciano doesn’t like me. Two years ago, I was on a trip to watch San Jose and Eugene. Luciano homered the day before I got to San Jose and he homered the day after I left. While I was in Eugene, he was promoted. Huzzah! Another chance. I got a rocket into the corner, which was fun, but nothing else. Once again, the day I left town, he hit his first High A homer.
And now this week, I’ve seen him in three of the last four games I watched. Good at bats, but not a hit in sight. The one day he got on the bus with the road crew, this happens?
I’ll tell you, I’m starting to take it a little bit personal!
But in all seriousness, things are coming along really well for the Giants’ top hitting prospect. With not many days left before the players break camp, it’s looking more and more like he’ll be a little bit behind — he has yet to start playing in the field at all. But I wouldn’t expect him to be delayed in opening the season very long — given the cold and wet springs that often afflict the Eastern League in April, it’s probably not the worst idea in the world to continue to get him reps in a controlled environment. But pretty soon, we should have him in Richmond — and then hopefully, I’ll get to see my very first Luciano-bomb in person, something I’ve been chasing for a few years now! It’s coming soon. I can feel it!
