In Wednesday’s post, I reminisced about some of my most memorably thrilling “off the bus” experiences I have had going to Papago Park for spring training. Yesterday’s arrival was, sadly, the anti-climactic counterpoint to those memories, as I rushed to Papago from the car rental scrum at the airport (the less said about that episode the better)….only to find that yesterday was a “camp day.” No games were being played, the complex was silent, and lonely, and locked up tight.
Ah well. Such is life. There are always a few of those mixed in to any trip, so I guess it’s not the worst thing in the world to have one on a travel day, when I’m fatigued and disoriented and could use a little down time. On the bright side, there will be games all through the weekend, so I’ll make up for your loss with at least one post this weekend (likely tomorrow), and plenty more coming next week.
In the meantime, since I didn’t want to leave you wondering why the radio silence, I thought I’d write a quick post today and catch up on a couple of stories that I haven’t had time to get around to in recent weeks. Sorry for the unavoidable bait and switch, but Camp Notes won’t stay away much longer….promise!
