Since the minor league season is in its dwindling days, it seems appropriate to salute all of the good folks out there who make it their summer lives to keep the game going. They show up every day at the yard and keep the over-used turf from showing its wear, they prepare your evening’s food and drink and entertainment and information. They hustle from night to day to night again, putting in incredible hours routinely for months on end.
And when disaster threatens, they jump quickly and stick their nose in the action to prevent the worst.
That’s not just the grounds crew out there. It’s the Hype Squad, the announcing crew, the danged CEO — the great Parney! — and everybody else who knows how to lend a hand when needed. So, let’s salute the hard-working folks behind the scenes who keep the minor league running. Theirs is a true labor of love that is heavy on the “labor.”
(And thanks to the quick-witted scout in the pressbox who grabbed that incredible footage! That’s a hard-working group, too, though apparently unappreciated by the Washington Nationals and too many other organizations.)
