One of the pleasures of this point in the minor league season is seeing which ones of the newcomers are going to grab your attention with early achievements. Who will remove themselves from the background chatter of “the rest of the draft” and become a foreground player — an “I gotta watch this guy” player. Does anybody remember when Vaun Brown debuted for ACL Orange by posting a 1.100 OPS, hitting .354 with nearly half of his hits going for extra bases? Rookie league stats are not particularly meaningful for college kids — but they’re not always not meaningful either!
As kids are just starting to get their feet wet and their legs underneath them, some early leaders for the “hey, check out that guy!” sweepstakes are starting to form. You can tell from the headline one guy who’s demanding my attention — but he’s not the only newbie thriving in the desert last night….
HITTER of the NIGHT: Turner Hill (SF), 5 for 6, 2b (13), 3b (1), 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Josh Bostick (ACLGB) 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
So settle in for a trip around the farm of a Wednesday night. The Dog Days are here and the heat is pounding …. so you may need to grab a snowcone to cool yourself down while we go through the Minor Lines.
