Oh man! is there a lot to get to today! A huge night of offense and some shocking news stories made this, perhaps, the wildest day of the year so far! So what all happened in the last 24 hours?
I suppose we’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop on Seth Corry ever since he left his second start of the year, on April 19, after throwing just two pitches. Yesterday, The Athletic’s Melissa Lockard broke the news that Corry has undergone shoulder surgery — yet another tough break for a talented young pitcher who really needs a dose of good news at this point.
So far, nothing about the surgery (or its findings) is known, but if you’re inclined to look for silver linings, it’s worth noting that the Giants placed Corry on the 7-day IL, not the 60-day, leaving open the possibility that a return this year is possible. Perhaps that might suggest something about the extent of the surgery, though, in general, it’s always a dubious enterprise to wade into medical topics without adequate knowledge. We’re in wait-and-see mode, unfortunately.
But that’s just one major prospect-related story from Wednesday. There’s more!
This one came as something of a shock — and needs a Sherlock Holmes-sized magnifying lens to try to parse information from between the lines. Thanks to a reader comment earlier this week, I was planning on writing a post on players who might be moved in trades this year — and Prelander Berroa was going to be on that list.
