In a conversation that I had with MLB’s Jim Callis just yesterday (which I suspect you’ll be hearing in the not-too-distant future), he mentioned that Kyle Harrison had just graduated off MLB’s Giants’ prospect ranking. I suppose that makes last night Kyle’s very first “post-prospect” start. The prodigy is one of just two pitchers under the age of 23 starting games in the majors this year. Happy Graduation Day, Harry! Best of luck out there in the adult world.
From the very beginning of There R Giants’ history, Harrison has dominated Giants prospect talk — his draft (along with Patrick Bailey and Casey Schmitt) was one of the very first real baseball events I covered here. Remember this oldie but goodie speaking with Harrison’s high school coach?
But we are now officially in a post-Harry world at this prospects only site. His career is in his own hands — and they’re pretty good hands, all in all!
So, let’s turn to the players who DO fall within the purview of this site, and get this season started proper like with our first full week of ball! It was Opening Day in Richmond. The bunting was out and the crowds were in! We even had a visit from an old friend, as Giants’ (and Squirrels’) legend Joe Panik threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Not sure if that throw is going to turn two, Joe!
