Giants' 4th rounder has made a lot of fans in debut season

“I’d be lying to say I wasn’t tired,” Eric Silva said by phone last week. The 19-year-old 4th round pick of the Giants in 2021 has been navigating the long haul of his first professional season. “You know, playing over 100 games this season. I’ve never done that once in my life.” Youth leagues, summer ball, travel ball, high school ball — all have occupied Silva’s time and energy for virtually his entire life, but none of that compares to the relentless daily working pace of professional ball. “I’ve never gone every week playing every day for six months. So I’ve been doing my best to take care of my body and help progress and do whatever I can to stay on the field and be there for my team.”
