Let us turn, once again, to the wit and wisdom of that august philosopher known as Charlie Brown:

That’s right! It’s the most wonderful d--….. well, it’s one of the most wonderful days of the year anyway! I’ll admit that between the open of spring, and major league opening day and Triple-A opening day and the day I first arrive in Papago Park and, you know, that other notable most wonderful day, that the calendar does get mighty crowded with red letter days.

But the start of the minor league season flips a mighty important switch for this site anyway. After today, we are fully into in-season work! Enough with retrospectives and guess-work and imaginative might-have-beens. From tonight onward, we get to focus on what is actually happening for the next six months — with, of course, the associative guess-work and imaginative what-does-it-all-means that comes with these empirical, tangible, tactile, actual happenings!

From here on out, it’s highlights and statistics and dazzling feats of athleticism and “who belted which home run how far?”

So to honor this joyous and momentous occasion in the baseball calendar, let’s pause before we step smack dab into the middle of reality and take one more 60,000 foot view at the season to come. Because all the world loves a listicle, here are five questions that might come to define the 2024 season on the Giants’ farm.
