Did I say there should be some moves announced yesterday? Woo Bob, I might have gone light on setting expectations!
Later yesterday this little nugget dropped:
In addition to all of that movement, Evan Gates and Daniel Tillo moved up to Richmond to help fill out a pitching staff that has been hit by injuries. And, in a really sad transaction, OF Franklin Labour was released — and while I understand that move from a baseball perspective (the Richmond roster has seven active players currently who can man the OF), I want take a moment to say that you will just never meet a more upbeat, friendly, engaging human in your life. I hope he’s able to hook on with another team and keep chasing the dream somewhere.
And then there was this move, which KNBR’s Danny Emerman glosses perfectly.
In all, it was another big day of bodies in motion around the organization. After which, the action on the field…..fell a little bit flat. Three of the four teams suffered losses, and only four players in the system had two hits on the night. So slightly muted nightly honors…
HITTER of the Night: Wade Meckler (SJ), 2 for 4, 2 2b (2), 2 Runs, 1 BB
PITCHER of the Night: Nick Avila (Rich), 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
I would be a little surprised if there are any more big transaction days the rest of the season. Maaaaybe there’s a move up to Triple A for a certain left-hander, but maybe getting him a playoff start would be a nice way to reward him for the great year. Playoff rosters are probably getting pretty well set at this point.
