Congratulations to Trenton Brooks for making his big league debut last night! A 17th round pick by Cleveland back in 2016, Brooks is a veteran of 638 minor league games and over 2,600 minor league plate appearances. After being acquired from Oakland last summer, he was named a post-season PCL All Star — though most of his All Star caliber work came while he was still playing for Vegas. But this year, he’s been a stalwart in the middle of the Sacramento lineup, hitting .308 (told ya batting average is important in the minors!)/.426/.462. Brooks is actually a similar hitter to the man he is replacing, LaMonte Wade, Jr. He has a great idea of the strike zone, rarely goes outside it, and hits line drives. There’s a blueprint for success there, Trenton!

Brooks chased down his dream just five weeks shy of his 29th birthday. Go get ‘em, kid!

The roster moves yesterday included former Phillies’ top prospect Spencer Howard getting a call up, and, as predicted yesterday, a return of Tyler Fitzgerald.

In minor league call up news, the Giants continue their season-long trend of pushing their 1st round picks up the ladder. This time, according to The Athletic’s Andy Baggarly, it’s 2021’s top pick, Will Bednar moving on up to Eugene (though I suppose technically that’s just an activation, not a promotion, since Bednar has been listed on Eugene’s IL all season).

And with that news, the Giants have now given their 2019, 2021, and 2022 1st round picks promotions in the early months of this season. Bryce Eldridge, you are on notice!

Actually, the guy who should really be on notice headlines the achievements from last night.

HITTER of the NIGHT: Casey Schmitt (Sac), 2 for 4, 2b, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Hayden Birdsong (Rich),
6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K

Yup, I’ll just go ahead and say that I believe I saw my Pitcher of the Night at his current stop for the last time last night. Calling it now. It might not have been his last performance there, but I think it’s the last one I’ll see.
