MLB is piling up marquee events around the All Star weekend like a Jenga tower, which makes today an especially big Monday wrap up. We’ve got Futures Game news, we’ve got some new star players to dream on (not officially Giants yet, but on their way), and of course, we have a huge weekend of games to catch up on.
So let’s not waste time with intros. It’s Big Monday time!
I’m going to put the draft news in a separate post to keep this from getting too unwieldy (that will be true the next two days as well). So check your Inbox for another post coming in this morning on the draft front. Here we’ll focus on the action that took place on the field this weekend — including the field at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
On Saturday, the news came out that Kyle Harrison would not be pitching in the Futures Game (in fact, I don’t believe he even attended), due to a “moderate” hamstring strain that cropped up during his side-session between starts. PoBO Farhan Zaidi said the Giants still intend to use Harrison at some point in the second half, but any sort of soft-tissue strain is a “weeks not days” type rehab, so a potential Harrison MLB debut is now certainly not coming before sometime in August.
Carson Whisenhunt, however, did travel to Seattle and took part in the festivities. In addition to game playing, “festivities” at the Futures Game means doing the media circuit, and Carson did stop by Baseball America’s huge, six-hour “prospect pad.” I’ve clipped out his appearance (though I was a little late on the trigger with the intro) in case you’d like to watch — though most of what he had to say, you’ve already heard in his less heralded appearance on There R Giants pod.
