I am, by no means, an expert on player development. But I have an idea that I think is a real slam dunk. It will take some managing — the logistics on this plan are undeniably tricky. But if the Giants could pull it off, they might have a perennial Cy Young Award candidate on their hands: whenever Josh Bostick goes to the mound, make sure the opposition is always wearing the uniforms of Tri-City Dust Devils. No matter the level, no matter the team: Tri-City Dust Devils. That’s the secret to bringing out the best in this Texan Van Helsing! We’ll see what I mean, a little later on.
Before we get to the games, however, let me update an answer to a question in yesterday’s mailbag. I mentioned that I do expect the Giants to rise in the various industry Organizational Rankings this winter, as the talent coming up in the lower levels of the system is adding both high-end talent and better depth. Right on schedule, MLB Pipeline updated their org rankings yesterday afternoon, and in their first rack-and-stack since the spring, they did move the Giants up ten spots, from 28 to 18, saying “the most improved system since our March rankings…the Giants are loaded with young talent and poised to continue to climb.” (Don’t look at the fact that they have the Dodgers back up at #1.) MLB does not have Josuar Gonzalez, or any other Giant, in their Top 100 yet, as Baseball America does, so I think we can expect a bigger burst up the rankings when BA gets around to their next view of the industry, top to bottom this winter, and future climbing on the MLB rankings next year. The worm seems to be turning slowly — though as we’ve seen before, there’s many a slip betwixt the big rankings and the solid major league players (or something like that).

PITCHER of the NIGHT: Josh Bostick (Eug), 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 14 K
Alright, let’s get on to the lines, where there was a “big game” feel hovering over some of the action:
