Humans often have a natural tendency to laser focus on the negative and fixate on the things that disappoint. There is some of that going on in the Giants’ system this year, but don’t let it obscure the BREAKOUTS that are happening, too!

Grant McCray leads off the game with a double over the center fielder’s head for @SJGiants. 106 mph off the bat, per Trackman. The 2019 third-round pick is generating a lot of buzz among scouts and front office officials.

These are two guys who are making a legitimate push for the system’s Top 10. Honestly, as I start cogitating over a mid-season re-ranking here at There R Giants, Schmitt is easily in my Top 10 (you might remember that I had him there in my mid-season ranking last year, before dropping him down slightly to 13 in the winter — big mistake!). McCray has further to leap in my rankings, but as I noted in my Early Risers piece, I wrote his profile this winter with an eye on him making a big jump up this year — and he’s definitely gone out and done it. I haven’t quite decided if he can gobble up 20 whole spaces on my list yet, but he’s got the goods and he’s home delivering them!
