Keyner Martinez: Boss Mode!

Pulling back the curtain a slight bit, I spent most of yesterday afternoon working on my upcoming mid-season re-ranking of the Giants’ system (which you’ll be seeing the final version of next week). And, boy howdy am I happy this morning with where I ended up placing Keyner Martinez. The 21-year-old right-hander took the mound against a lot of the same players he faced in last year’s Cal League championship series for what turned out to be his best start of the year by any number of measures.

There is work to be done here, of course. But I’ll say this: if Martinez was slinging it at some American university all spring, a lot of Giants’ fans would be eagerly looking forward to selecting him with the fourth pick next week. Good news: they don’t have to; he’s already here!
