Kyle Harrison Grounds Aviators and Much More From a Big Weekend of Action!
SF Giants Minor Lines, May 5-7, 2023
The baseball season is long. Sometimes that’s a threat, but usually it’s a promise. Though things may seem to be starting off slowly or in the wrong direction, there’s plenty of time for them to turn around. That’s the case with the Giants’ farm system. So many of the guys we’d pined to see over the winter started the spring in rehab mode. Top prospects who were assigned to affiliates got off to slow starts. Where was a prospect lover to turn to satisfy the yearnings?
But over the last few days, we’ve seen two of the #2 and #3 prospects (Marco Luciano and Casey Schmitt) belt their first homers of the year. We’ve seen #5 and #7 prospects (Grant McCray and Luis Matos) really start to heat up. We’ve seen the #9 prospect (Carson Whisenhunt) move up a level and keep on cruising, while bringing the #6 prospect along with him, adding his own unique energy to the situation (yes, it’s Vaun Brown attacking that game once again).
And we saw the top guy, There R Giants’ #1 prospect in the system, begin making the adjustment to a very difficult pitching environment, once again displaying his ability to dominate hitters much older than he is — that would be the one and only Kyle Harrison!
In other words — it’s been a pretty good weekend!
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Grant McCray (Eug), 6 for 10, 2 HR (4), 4 RBI, 2 SB, 4 K
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Kyle Harrison (Sac), 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
Oh, and we saw the return of this guy — who isn’t on the Top 50 yet, but I feel pretty certain will have a strong debut next winter!
Let’s take a whirl around the system and see what gems we can find from a pretty enjoyable weekend on the farm.
