I mentioned this at the conclusion of yesterday’s post, but Baseball America yesterday came out with a new — and significantly revamped — Top 100 yesterday. Back in the winter, the Giants posted five prospects on BA’s Top 100, in this new version they have three:
14: Marco Luciano (up from 15)
47: Kyle Harrison (up from 64)
87: Luis Matos (down from 66)
The other two on the winter list were Joey Bart (#71), who has graduated from prospectdom, and Heliot Ramos (#94), who fell off the back end of the list. There’s some clear good news here, as well as some send it straight to voicemail kind. Luciano remains an elite hitting prospect, and Harrison is zooming up the ranks, looking like he’ll join Luciano in that rarified air soon. That’s the good news. On the less good side, though, we’re seeing some clear regression from top prospects (that obviously includes Bart, even though he’s no longer a prospect), and the wave of talent that was supposed to be building doesn’t really seem to be materializing as fully as envisioned. Even the splendidly talented Matos is back-tracking thanks to an unwelcome combination of struggles and injury. There are still a lot of good things going on down on the farm, but not quite the level of Bang that Drum LOUDLY things going on that we were all dreaming about back in 2019-20.
That’s always the way of it — attrition will have its way with the very best daydreams. It’s a game built on failure, after all. Take the good with the bad.
Let’s get to the lines…
HITTER of the Night: Jason Krizan (Sac), 3 for 4, HR (2), 2 R, 2 RBI
PITCHER of the Night: Landen Roupp (SJ), 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K
