Friends, I come not to bury David Villar, but to praise him. After getting drilled in the wrist on the final day of May, it took Villar a few days to, as he said after last night’s game, build up strength and “trust the hand again,” (because the human body quite sanely tells us firmly, “don’t do that thing that made me say ‘ow’ again”). He went just 5 for 26 in his first week back (albeit with three doubles and five walks), while striking out 11 times.
Still, warm up time seems to be over, and Villar is now back to Clobber Mode!
Let us praise, David Villar! Let us praise all of the third day draftees, who put in the work to make themselves better, to make themselves stronger, to put themselves in position to one day call themselves “big leaguers.” Let us hope that day comes soon.
HITTER of the Night: David Villar (Sac), 2 for 3, 2 HR (20), 4 R, 6 RBI, 2 BB
PITCHER of the Night: Ryan Murphy (Eug), 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
And with that, let’s get to the lines! And, as Luis Matos reminds us all, let’s do it with a little spring in our step!
