There were some new looks being shown off around the farm last night. New look lineups. New look starters. Everywhere you looked, there were new players or old players in new roles. And some of those new looks looked pretty good on guys! Let’s take a spin around in this thing and see how it handles.

But before we get to the new kids, let’s hand out some hardware. There’s no more Arizona Complex League action — but that doesn’t mean there’s no Arizona Complex League news! Congratulations to the Giants’ own Keyner Martinez, who took the July Pitcher of the Month honor for the ACL. Martinez posted a sterling 0.92 ERA in the final month of ACL action, with a 29 to 4 K:BB ratio over 19.2 IP. That’s the kind of performance that will get a guy promoted!

And with that, let’s get to a fun night on the farm, with W’s all around (a rare full organizational sweep night) and some fun new players doing big things in new places — not to mention an old guy or two impressing as well.

HITTER of the NIGHT: Jhonny Level (SJ), 3 for 5, HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Trevor McDonald (Sac), 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 10 K, 2 HR

Cowabunga Mr. McDonald! And if you think the 10 Ks are impressive — the man had 22 swinging strikes in just 89 total pitches. That is hot! And since we’re starting the wind down of the 2025 season — and I always like teasing your memories of what’s happened this year — how’s about we open with a little trivia. McDonald’s 10 strikeout performance was the 10th this year by a Giants minor leaguer — accomplished by eight different pitchers. How many of the eight can you name — and bonus points if you can remember the two who have done it twice. Answer at the bottom of today’s post.
