Hey, I forgot to mention this yesterday, but a hearty There R Giants’ congratulations to one of my favorite Very Large Humans™, Carson Seymour, who became the 23,520th player in major league history — still not enough to make a good weekend crowd at Oracle. It’s a tremendous achievement, and one Seymour has worked very hard to achieve. Awesome!

Seymour becomes the fifth different starting pitcher for the 2023 Richmond Flying Squirrels team I covered to go on to pitch in the big leagues — and the eighth member of that staff to make the majors overall (six position players have gone on from that team to be major leaguers, led by Gold Glove winner, Patrick Bailey). These aren’t mere cup of coffees either — those pitchers include 40% of the Giants’ current starting rotation and two of their most important late innings relievers. That’s a pretty good return from a Double-A roster in two years!

Anyway, welcome and congratulations — you are officially here and forevermore, Carson #1.

A little bullpen meltdown prevented the complex clubs from a perfect 3-0 result yesterday. Still, these three young squads continue to impress. The two DSL clubs are a collective 32-9 on the year — and consider that more than 10% of that loss total came in a game where they played each other! (Something that happens again today, which means that, by this time tomorrow, 20% of their collective loss total will be fraternal). By winning percentage, only one team in the 52-team league has exceeded either the Orange or the Black.

Meanwhile, in Arizona, the ACL Giants have six more victories than any other team in the league, even with a tiny bit of a losing over the last couple of weeks. There should be some post-season activity coming for these short season teams — which could be a lot of fun with the DSL squads, as that league is converting this year to a World Cup style tournament play post-season.

HITTER of the DAY: Juan Colorado (DSLGO), 1 for 5, Grand Slam HR
PITCHER of the DAY: Alberto Laroche (DSLGB), 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K

A little hard to settle on a Hitter of the Day — and normally I’d avoid a guy with one hit and three strikeouts — but Colorado’s swing was so epic it won my heart. Laroche appears to be settling in as my regular Tuesday Pitcher of the Week — and I had to really work hard to avoid giving him the Post Title for the second straight week!

Let’s get to the action and then take a gander at all the stats, transactions, leaderboards, and honors…
