I hope everybody had a great 4th of July, with hot dogs or fireworks, or parade, or celebration of your choice! Perhaps your rocket’s red glare of choice is one that comes off the bat at 107 mph. If so — you’re definitely in luck! As a true bus man’s holiday, I took in a little minor league baseball for my 4th — an enjoyable night out with my wife and friends. I highly recommend it for a festive and patriotic environment.
We’re now fully into the second half of the year — and things are about to start happening in a rush! Before this week is out, we’ll have some new prospects to fit somewhere into the top of our rankings — and before the month is out, we might lose a few from the inventory as well. July is a hectic, dramatic, changeable month when it comes to prospecting. Get ready for some action!
Speaking of which, my annual draft primer is coming your way tomorrow to get you all prepped and ready for the 2025 MLB draft, which will take place over about a 24-hour period this coming Sunday and Monday. I’ll have coverage of both days coming next week — a week that will include two different pressers with Scouting Director Michael Holmes, as well as a probable media access event with whomever the top pick is.
And, of course, while all of that is going on, I will also be in the Dominican Republic taking in some DSL action for the first time — something I’ve had high on my bucket list for years. And to celebrate a trip that I’m really excited about, I’ve decided to run a “Let’s All Go to the DSL Sale!” (not literally — I’m the only one who will actually be going, but figuratively, I’m taking you all with me!). From now until I head home again (which will be July 16), I’m offering 25% off either annual or monthly subscriptions for a year. It really is a good time to become a There R Giants’ subscriber!
But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves, because we have a lot of ground to cover from the past four days. And, in particular, there’s a lot of winning ground to cover, as all four affiliates won their series, and two of them recorded six-game sweeps! And, you will be happy to hear — the wave of Grand Slams that started sweeping through the organization a week ago hasn’t ended just yet! We’d better get a move on — and maybe get ready to make a fancy slide while we’re at it to make sure we get home safely.
HITTER of the WEEKEND: Marco Luciano (Sac), 5 for 10, 3 HR, 2b, 10 RBI, 6 BB, 7 R
PITCHER of the WEEKEND: Keyner Martinez (ACLG), 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
And, if we pull out to a slightly wider frame, there are a couple of performances that deserve an even higher honor. Congrats to left-handers Jacob Bresnahan and Ricardo Estrada, each of whom grabbed Pitcher of the Month honors for their leagues in June. Excellent work, fellows!
Oh, and let’s congratulate one more guy — because you know how long I’ve been a fan of this kid’s, and it’s been a long, uneven road of hard work and over-coming frustration to get to this point. Randy Rodriguez, All Star. How about that? You GO, Randy!
