The family story always went that I was named after Roger Craig (yes, indeed, my middle name is Craig), though my Dad, who was the most passionate Giants’ fan you could ever encounter, could never satisfactorily explain why, exactly, he had named me after a pitcher who had a 6.15 ERA for the Dodgers the previous year. It all worked out in the long run, however, when the Humm Baby became the first truly beloved manager in San Francisco history, and implanted his positive mindset on a group of players who would become the most successful Giants’ team since the 1960s.
I hope you’re starting tonight’s game in heaven, Roger! And may your Humm Baby spirit always embue the franchise you came to call your own after all.
We’ve reached the end of the calm, staid, four-affiliates, six-days a week portion of the season. Which means that starting next week, our standard jammed-packed Monday edition posts are going to get super-sized!
So let’s enjoy the final week of trying to wrap our arms around a mere 12 game-weekend, before attempting the brain-freeze of tackling some 20 games next Monday. Won’t that be fun!
