From the “gone but not forgotten” file, Tyler Fitzgerald is making a little history in Richmond even as he settles into his new home on the West Coast. Fitzgerald became just the third Eastern League Player of the Month in the 14-year history of the Flying Squirrels. He also hit his way OUT of the league with his torrid opening month. Want to make it a Trivia question? Guess who the other two were!
A well-deserved honor for a guy who did exactly what you’re supposed to do when you’re unhappy with your assignment — play your way out.
Which leads us back, as ever, to the play on the field. It was a night of big swings — on the scoreboard and of the bat. There were comebacks and near comebacks, there was…. rain in northern California?
And there were lots and lots of runs — one thing that connected all of the games together, it was a tough night to be a pitcher. And for your humble correspondent, there was one particular sight I’ve been chasing for a few years now — my very first live in person view of a Marco Luciano rocket. And it absolutely lived up to my fervid anticipation!
HITTER of the NIGHT: Matt Higgins (SJ), 4 for 5, HR (2), 2b (5), 4 RBI, 2 R, 1 K
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Hunter Dula (Eug), 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
So hop on board and let’s take in the wonders of a Thursday night of baseball around the farm, in today’s Minor Lines!
(as, for instance, Will Wilson…outfielder? Yes! Will Wilson: outfielder!)
