Marco Luciano’s arms are covered in a sleeve of intricate and complex tattoos. Some inspire him, some delight him, some tell stories. The one he likes best, however, is the one that he believes tells the story of his journey through pro ball. On the shoulder and upper portion of his powerful left arm, a series of stairs lead up to a clock tower, amusingly anachronistic springs and mechanisms bursting out behind the type of clock face that overlooks town squares.
Where once the teenaged Luciano talked confidently about whizzing to the majors in a year or two, this is how the wiser — though only slightly older — player now thinks about his professional journey. Patient, constant, one step at a time, moving ever upwards towards the destination. And over it all, the omnipresent clock. “So, it’s like…everything takes time,” Luciano said, using Richmond Fundamentals Coach Lipso Nava as his interpreter.
