The thing that was tops on my mind at the beginning of the week is the thing that is top of my mind as we reach the weekend: a swath of injuries really has given me a sense of “hollowing out” as I listen to or watch the affiliate games. That’s been particularly true on the position player side, where things were already a little limited due to so many of the top guys starting out the year at complex levels. Of the top seven position players in There R Giants’ Top 50 this year, only Dakota Jordan is currently active — and, fortunately, he put on a show for us last night, which is nice.
The good news is that it does seem like Bryce Eldridge is nearing activation. If there are no more setbacks (knock on wood), he should be assigned sometime while I am on assignment (beginning next Thursday, remember to be nice to the substitute everybody). And, once we get to May, ACL season will kick in, which will bring guys like Jhonny Level and Rayner Arias into official play. That will help us get along with the absence of so many exciting players whose progress we’ve been eagerly waiting to follow.
And, of course, the pitchers would like a word here, because they say they’re providing plenty of excitement. Just ask Mason Black, who last night set a career high in strikeouts, and became the first member of the 2025 Double Digit K Klub!
HITTER of the NIGHT: Jakob Christian (SJ), 2 for 3, HR (3), 3 R, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SB
PITCHER of the NIGHT: Mason Black (Sac), 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 1 HR
Enough moping over who is not in play, let’s head to the Lines and talk about who is. And, for you kids out there, Victor Bericoto has a very important lesson:
If at first you don’t succeed…
….try, try again.
