If you didn’t notice (I’m always afraid these “off hours” posts are going to land in your junk folders), I posted my mid-season re-ranking of the There R Giants’ Top 50 yesterday, just in time for the start of the second half. Give it a look if you haven’t already and let me know what you think.
And while we’re taking note of prefatory things, let’s stop to appreciate the fact that this week’s Baseball America Hot Sheet features three Giants’ prospects. Not surprisingly, following a brilliant two-start week, Kyle Harrison is en fuego with the #2 spot on the weekly list. Equally unsurprising is Grant McCray’s inclusion at #19. But would you have guessed Wil Jensen as the third entry? Probably not, because I’ve done a woefully bad job of spotlighting Jensen’s virtues throughout the year. Jensen made the list at #14 after his own two-start week, with Geoff Pontes noting that Jensen’s slider has generated whiffs 43% of the time this season. Yet another slider monster for the system to keep an eye on!
HITTER of the Night: Vaun Brown (Eug), 3 for 4, HR (1), Run, RBI, SB (3)
PITCHER of the Night: Roberto Monegro (AZGB), 5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K
Let’s get to the lines….
