For the second time in 10 months, the Eugene Emeralds have hurled a no-hitter (and I wasn’t even in the state this time around)! In an astonishing bit of symmetry, the Emeralds used three different pitchers, each going three hitless innings, while striking out four batters apiece (if it had been three Ks apiece, the absolute balance would have been too precious).
So on a night when, to be honest, hitters weren’t exactly surging forward to grab our daily spotlight, let’s change up the banner a bit and just let this trio sit alone. Well deserved guys. What a night!
PITCHERS of the NIGHT: Dylan Cumming, Nick Sinacola, Seth Corry (Eug),
9.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 12 K
I’ve had a few questions on this so far, and I know you’re all interested, so I’ll put this up above the fold. As surmised, it sounds like Bryce Eldridge’s issue was thankfully fairly minor and he should be back soon. The old “abundance of caution” reflex has been enacted — appropriately so — so I don’t think you’ll be seeing him this week. But I’d look for him to return to action maybe sometime early in the next series. You know how it is with soft tissue tweaks — you don’t want to rush back into action only to end up with a worse situation that takes more time to recover from. Muscles take however long they take to recover. That’s bad news for those of you who hoped to see Eldridge this week at Excite Park, but you know, for those of you who happen to be in the Fresno area next week, you might want to stop by!
