New talent is coming! It’s young, it’s raw, and it’s very VERY far from being realized, but once again, the Giants are excited about the quality of players and kids that they’re bringing aboard.
The Giants have been aggressive on the international market over the last several years, and that aggressiveness was on display again this year, as they signed their top target, OF Rayner Arias, for a deal that has been reported at $2.7 million. That tops the $2.6 million they originally signed Marco Luciano for, giving Arias the highest international bonus for the team since they shelled out $6 million to Lucius Fox in 2015.
Giants’ Senior Director of International Scouting, Joe Salermo (seen at the far left in the above photo), reached by phone yesterday, compared Arias to the Chicago White Sox’ Eloy Jimenez. “He’s a middle of the order bat, plus power and above average hit. He a plus athlete and does really everything really easy.” Beyond his physical skills, Arias is renowned for his understanding of the game, and has wowed observers with his work ethic. “We’re getting a combination of hit ability and power potential with baseball IQ and good makeup.”
