More incoming! Luke Williams (who was DFA’d in order to get Michael Papierski on the major league roster) was sent to Miami for more than just “cash considerations!” An actual human is coming in return. Hayden Cantrelle is a very recent (2020) and fairly high (5th round) draft choice. The former leadoff hitter for Louisiana-Lafayette has never hit much, but he posted a .400 OBP in college and — say it with me — he controls the zone with good swing decisions! He’s a switch hitting table setter who has questions about the hit tool from both sides, but has a history of reaching base. He also plays all over the field, having spent time at 2b, SS, and 3b as a pro, and some time at every OF position in college and the Cape. YES! Very Giantsy! As a pro, he’s hit just .174 so far (2021-22) and is, somewhat surprisingly, already on his third organization. He was traded at the end of spring training from Milwaukee to Miami in a move that cleared Alex Jackson (acquired from the Braves last summer for old friend Adam Duvall) off the Marlins’ Opening Day roster.
Got your head swimming yet? Good! Let’s get to the lines — where we always respect our opponents!
