On a night when the San Jose Giants and Visalia Rawhide smashed an all time Cal League record for strikeouts, lets begin by spotlighting some nice defense. I’ve talked a lot about the excellent start that Dilan Rosario has had at the plate this year, but the kid can pick it, too!

HITTER of the Night: David Villar (Sac) 3 for 5, 2b (1), 2 R, RBI
PITCHER of the Night: Nick Sinacola (SJ),
4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K

I suppose by rights, I should give the Pitcher of the Night honor to all of Nick Sinacola, Keaton Winn, Trevor McDonald, and Tyler Myrick, who collectively pitched a one-hitter with an astonishing 20 strikeouts! And really, even that standard description doesn’t quite do justice to what to took place in Visalia last night, as the Rawhide hitters never — in 9 innings of play — batted a ball into the outfield in fair territory. Incredible! A foul pop down the right field line was literally the furthest any Rawhide batter managed to project a baseball on the night.

Remarkable. 20 of Visalia’s 30 hitters struck out tonight + 6 groundouts, one foul out down the RF line, an infield single, one walk & one batter reached via an E4. The most dominant single-game pitching performance I’ve ever seen in San Jose. https://t.co/tK5JhCMUA5

@JoeRitzo Can you remember calling another game where a team didn’t hit a fair ball to the outfield? I don’t think Visalia did tonight.
