I drove down to Richmond yesterday — as you could probably tell from my little “add on” video that I dropped yesterday afternoon. And while I was there, I recorded a couple more videos that you’ll be seeing soon — maybe verrrrry soon. (Still working on how to reduce the noise levels at the Diamond, a quandary that’s about three years of experimentation in without any great solutions presenting themselves thus far). I checked out the progress of the new stadium growing across the parking lot and I chatted with a couple of players who will be big parts of the upcoming season, as well as caught up with several friends and acquaintances at the stadium whom I’ve not seen in many months — all of them working hard to get everything ready for Opening Night.
All of which is to say that while today’s post will conclude this week’s mini-series of team previews, it’s worth saying that this place — this team, this staff, this front office, and these fans — has a special claim on my work and my time that the other affiliates can’t quite match. In a very real way, I couldn’t deliver the quality of work that I hope to without the help of many people at The Diamond who support and assist me. So, before I get to the team, let me say a huge thank you to Parny, Trey, Blaine, Jordan, Megs, Sam, and many, many others who work behind the scenes to make the stadium experience happen, and of course to Pelf and his staff who get the players ready to play. I couldn’t do all this without them and I greatly appreciate all of their hard work. The whole team really does make a difference in the coverage I can bring you. (I’ll thank them all on your behalf as well).
Now, on with the preview.
