Good news came with a bad news chaser last night. Richmond punched its ticket for the dance hours before San Jose was swept off the floor. Tears of joy followed by tears of sorrow. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, as ol’ Jim so succinctly phrased it.

I don’t want to bury that lede, so let’s soak up the moment in all of its glory:

That said, there are some things I want to get to before we turn to the events of the night. Focused as I am on end of season drama, I’ve gotten woefully negligent at keeping you updated on an assortment of important peripheral information. As for instance, I think I completely forgot to mention that San Jose pitcher Marques Johnson won the final Pitcher of the Week Award for the Cal League, or that both Trevor McDonald and Ryan Murphy have made appearances on recent Baseball America Hot Sheets!

Yes, indeed, it does seem that I have been a very negligent host! I’m going to try to make up for that right now with a quick little potpourri of topics — prospect hors d’oeuvres, as it were, before we get to the main course.
